Tuscarora School District is pleased to provide students with the opportunity to participate in the TSD 1:1 Chromebook initiative.  All learners are given the privilege of utilizing a Chromebook that is the sole property of the Tuscarora School District.

See below answers to frequently asked questions.

  • No, device protection is an optional program.  If you do not enroll, you will be responsbile for all charges/fees for damages to your child’s device. 

  • No.  All repairs must be done by Tuscarora School District.  This is to ensure repairs meet performace requirement and to maintain the security of the device.  Repair charges are at or near the average costs we pay for the part(s).

  • You can only keep your deivce if you have paid the $25 Device Protection Plan fee EVERY year the device has been assigned to your child.  Usually this is 4 years, or $100 in total fees. 

  • Yes, the fee is an annual fee that must be paid each year if you wish to continue your enrollment in the protection program.

  • You will be responsible for all device repair costs if the device is damaged, unless teh reapir is detereminted to be a defect.  

  • Typical repair costs are as follows:

    Asset Tag/Sticker replacement   $5.00

    Power Cord/Charger   $25.00

    Screen Replacement   $35.00

    Keyboard Replacement  $50.00

    Battery Replacement  $50.00

    Motherboard  $100.00

    Hinges  $10.00 each

    Top cover  $15.00

    Trackpad  $15.00

    Other items at cost of parts determined by TSD

     

  • If your device gets completely destroyed, complete replacement costs are listed below based of the age of the device:

    Year 1:  $250.00

    Year 2:  $200.00

    Year 3:  $150.00

    Year 4:  $100.00

    *will be replaced a with similar aged device

     

  • The $25 device protection program covers ONE claim per school year, regardless of to cost to repair or replace.  

  • No.  Coverage begins after a 15-day waiting period after purchase and is NOT retroactive to damages that occurred before the plan was purchased nor damages that occurred during the 15-day waiting period.

  • No.  If you have already used your damage claim for the year, you will be billed for any additional repairs that are needed.

  • This practice has not been allowed in the past.  However, we are considering allowing this for decvice replacements in the summer/fall of 2025.  We will provide more information as we develop this option. 

  • Yes!  All student devices are issued with an always-on case.  The device should never be removed from the case as it is designed to prevent damges.  Any damages that occur when a device is out of the case are NOT covered under the device protection program.  

  • Yes.  The program and associated cost is per student and device.  So, if you have multiple children in the district on 5th thru 12th grades, you will need to enroll each student in the program.
